Itching for a few spring ski turns? Arapaho Basin will open on Wednesday with some restrictions meant to keep skiers healthy.

Colorado’s ski season came to an abrupt and early end in March when Gov. Jared Polis ordered resorts closed due to COVID-19. But with a significant snow base still remaining, the resort will open its doors for a few more weeks now that the state is reopening.

But it’s not without some caveats.

Arapaho Basin Reopens Post-COVID

Arapaho Basin CEO Alan Henceroth announced the reopening on his blog yesterday. The biggest change to normal ski season is that skiers will require a reservation to ski. Henceroth wrote on Al’s Blog:

It is official. We are going to re-open Wednesday, May 27. As I mentioned a couple days ago, we will sell a very small number of lift tickets. Mostly this opening is for all of our pass holders. That includes A-Basin season passes, Any Day Passes, Ikon Passes and Mountain Collective Passes. We will be open 7 days a week from 8:30 AM until 3:00 PM.

This is going to be very different.

1. Reservations are required. DO NOT SHOW UP WITHOUT A RESERVATION.

2. Physical distancing will be enforced and guests must wear face coverings in designated areas.

3. Tailgating and other gatherings will not be allowed.

We have been given an extraordinary opportunity. We need to take this very seriously and we need to respect the guidance given by our Summit County and State of Colorado health officials. We have to open in a responsible way. We need everyone to help.

The lift hours are 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., and A-Basin notes that you can expect spring conditions. It also states that it’s not a good time for beginners to hop on the slopes for the first time.

Also beginning Wednesday, uphill access will be open for Uphill Pass holders from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. Users must be off the hill by 8 a.m.

So if you’re in Colorado and need to get another day or two on the snow, this is your chance. Check out Arapaho Basin’s website for full details.
