Camper vans may have defined the last decade of RV-life on Instagram, but the next decade will likely see a continued push for lighter, smaller camper trailers. A camping trailer provides all of the essentials—shelter, a bed, and a cooking space—in a small and affordable package. Love campers and trailers? Come join our community group.

And lightweight trailers are especially appealing in an increasingly eco-conscious world; they can be towed by more efficient small SUVs, wagons, and sometimes even cars instead of requiring a gas-guzzling truck.

The latest lightweight trailer to cross our desk is brand new. Dutch startup Easy Caravanning just debuted the TakeOff, a pop-up camper that sets up in under one minute. That’s quick as lightening, and Easy Caravanning is betting big on the fact that people will love the ease of set up.

The camper itself is fairly simple, consisting of a hard roof, fabric sidewalls, and strut-assisted lift. You open the trailer from the back by dropping the entry step and pushing the roof up. Once inside, a dining table snaps into place in the center aisle, with two bench seats on either side. This same dinette transforms into an oversized queen bed that can sleep two, and different configurations let you prioritize a more spacious bed or a larger dining area.

It can be hard to squeeze a kitchen into this size of trailer, but the TakeOff manages with a compact dual-burner stove, electric fridge, and sink. There’s plenty of room to cook in the 6.7-foot ceilings, but the removable kitchen insert also lets you take the unit outside. There’s no separate bathroom in the trailer, but Easy Caravanning does offer an optional portable toilet in one of the benches. Other options include heat and an annex tent that lets you sleep a family.

The TakeOff’s dry weight is a reasonable 1,200 pounds, with a gross vehicle weight rating of 1,650 pounds. The base price should be about $15,000, with more comprehensive models costing around $21,000. The trailer will be available in an array of cheery colors like orange, blue, and green.

As a startup, Easy Caravanning has only built two TakeOffs for shows and testing. And before you get too excited stateside, the company will introduce its first campers in the Netherlands before expanding to other European markets. New Atlas reports, however, that international distribution could become a possibility if things go well.
