Patagonia’s Popular Puffy Now Comes as a Quilt

If you’ve always wanted to snuggle up in your favorite puffy jacket, now’s your chance.

The Patagonia Macro Puff Hoody uses synthetic insulation and light, water-resistant face fabric to keep the cold at bay. When the temps plunge, it’s a toasty-warm layer that we’ve proven has the chops for cold-weather adventure.

And now it comes in blanket form.

Here’s how Patagonia describes its new Macro Puff Quilt:

Incredibly warm for its weight, the Macro Puff Quilt is a nearly queen-sized blanket that’s Fair Trade Certified sewn with the same materials as our Macro Puff Hoody. It packs down easily for travel, stays warm even when wet and is ideal for staying warm year-round.

While we have not yet seen this blanket in person, GearJunkie editor Adam Ruggiero liked the Marco Puff Hoody’s insulation. “PlumaFill remains an impressive synthetic down alternative, both for warmth and compressibility,” he reported.

PlumaFill, for those unfamiliar, is Patagonia’s proprietary synthetic down. The brand also uses it in its popular Micro Puff jacket line. The PlumaFill insulation “replicates the structure of down in a continuous synthetic insulation material,” Patagonia notes.

While not as compressible as natural down, it offers some advantages, primarily the warm-when-wet performance of synthetic insulation.

A water-resistant, windproof, DWR-treated nylon ripstop Pertex Quantum shell is the water-resistant fabric that encases the insulation in the quilt.

Webbing loops at all four corners — for hanging the quilt up or lashing it down to a pad and a stuff sack — round out this quilt offering.

The 83 x 69-inch quilt weights in at 27.4 ounces and costs $249. The price puts it on the higher end of the range for synthetic outdoor quilts. But for those looking to invest in a high-quality piece based on a similarly excellent jacket, this one might be worth investigating.
