Winner: “In A Hurry” By Terrence Trevias
“While traversing through the wilds of Africa, I found myself on safari in the Timbavati Game Reserve in South Africa,” says Trevias. “Part of the Greater Kruger National Park, Timbavati (“place where the sacred came from heaven”) is located in Mpumalanga province surrounded by four game reserves and home to the “Big Five”: lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinoceros. I had three days allocated to photograph the actions of lions, leopards, and cheetahs in their natural habitat.
“During one of my afternoon excursions, my game guide received word of a female leopard within the vicinity and decided to investigate. We arrived at the location and decided to lay in wait with the hope that she would pass by. After one hour of waiting, and no leopard in sight, we luckily spotted a zeal of zebras a few meters away and decided to investigate. Wanting to capture the animals in action, I modified my camera setting and was able to capture a filly in motion as it ran quickly past our vehicle. I never did find the female leopard that afternoon but found something much better in the process. That’s the magic of nature, it always surprises you in the end.”
