Another mountain lion was photographed this past weekend in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, state wildlife officials reported. This makes the 41st verified cougar report in Michigan since 2008.
The large cat was wandering through a resident’s property near St. Jacques in Delta County, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources wrote in a Facebook post. Thanks to a well placed trail camera, they were able to capture a decent photo of the critter:
“The DNR cougar team confirmed this sighting as the 41st verified cougar report since 2008,” the post reads. “The location of this sighting is about 11 miles from the 40th verified cougar report,” while the 39th verified sighting was quite a ways further in Gogebic County.
Still, Michigan wildlife officials point to the possibility these reports may include sightings of the same mountain lion, and remain hesitant to confirm a breeding population in Michigan.
