Winner: “Trunk Tales” By Heather Nicole

“In February 2019, I went on an amazing safari in Kenya,” says Nicole. “The first stop of the journey was Amboseli National Park, which is known for its large herds of elephants. I have always been fascinated by elephants so having the opportunity to observe and photograph them in their natural environment was incredibly special. While in Amboseli, it was quite common for our safari vehicle to be surrounded by several elephants at any given time. I was intrigued by their delicate and gentle manner despite their impressive power and massive size. I wanted to focus on the most distinctive traits of these intelligent animals. For this shot, I decided to zoom in to capture the extreme flexibility and dexterity of the trunk of a female elephant as she was grazing close by. It was a beautiful and rewarding experience. ” Canon EOS 6D Mark II, TAMRON SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD A011 at 600mm. Exposure: 1/800 sec., f/6.3, ISO 400.
