Winner: “Gros Ventre Sunrise” By Jody Partin
“I camped alone in my car the night before, and it was a frigid 7 degrees,” recalls Partin. “I got up early and headed to this spot where I thought there might be potential for a good sunrise over the river. I pulled my Subaru Outback over to the road shoulder to wait for sunrise, and as I pulled over and stopped, I felt the car slip a bit further than I intended. I knew the car was stuck in the snowbank, but I decided to think about that after the sunrise. I took this image, and after the light became overcast, I started trying to dig out of the snow. After a good bit of failure, some nice men in a pickup truck came along and offered to pull me out. It took about 45 minutes to get me unstuck, but I walked away with a beautiful shot. Well worth the embarrassment!”
