Winner: “Teton Fire Light” By Harry Lichtman
”It took me several trips to this location to find this lighting, which made the image unique,” recalls Lichtman. “I had anticipated sunrise light would work best but ended up getting some crazy beautiful sunset conditions. This part of the Snake River was consistently still, so I chose this section to increase my chance of a nice reflection. The other thing I considered when wading out into the river was that any other photographers shooting from the river bank wouldn’t be in my shot. I used a slightly higher shutter speed to reduce the shutter speed in the lower light levels while still maximizing depth of field. A single RAW file was processed two times to optimize shadow and highlight detail. The resulting two images were then layered to reveal the best of both files.
