Tens of thousands of boating and fishing enthusiasts start their season at the Progressive® Insurance New York Boat Show, which is set for January 6-10 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City.
Organizers say with its 110-year history the show is recognized as THE place to see the latest and greatest in boating! It will include everything from yachts and cruisers to bass and pontoon boats, from canoes and kayaks to fishing boats and personal watercraft, from marine electronics and engines to fishing gear, and more! Boost your boating IQ! Top-notch mariners from the Annapolis School of Seamanship will be on deck to teach an entertaining curriculum of hands-on boating “courses.” They’ll share tips and tricks that will help you and your crew play it safe while having fun on the water. It’s enjoyable and educational for the whole family!
NEW! Boating Simulator—Test Your Boating Skills
Take the helm of a virtual boat to practice basic boating maneuvers and improve your boating skills—without leaving dry land. The United States Power Squadrons® new Boating Skills Virtual Trainer (BSVT) makes learning fun! It features a steering wheel and a real Mercury throttle you use to “drive” a 20-foot console boat on a lake with other powerboats, sailboats, navigation aids, and a marina.
Training options include close quarters maneuvering, docking and more. Instructors can adjust current and wind direction and velocity, and day/night settings to vary the degree of difficulty and challenge you whatever your skill level.
